The ‘Coaching to Learn’ series will highlight key aspects that contribute towards good coaching, with a focus on correct technical skills and clear, well thought-out delivery to ensure education stays at the heart of all coaching.

The Responsibilities of a Coach: Yogi Breisner FBHS

Monday 16th Feb at 7pm

To open the series, former Team GB Performance Manager & BHS Fellow, Yogi Breisner, will share and pass forward some of the most important lessons he has learnt as a coach throughout his extensive career, discussing the responsibilities of a coach, to both the horse and the rider. This evening will be full of wisdom and golden nuggets for you to implement into your day-to-day coaching, inspiring you to become a better educator, and high performance coach, no matter the level of rider you are working with.

Improving how you Communicate: Charlie Unwin

Monday 2nd March at 7pm

The second evening will very much focus on improving the delivery of your coaching; Performance Psychologist and Centre10 Founder, Charlie Unwin, will explore how you can develop your the way you communicate with riders, ensuring clear understanding from the rider. Charlie will discuss different motivation and questioning techniques, the importance of tonality, how you can better phase information – and help you better understand how riders learn so you can ensure the riders you work with make constant progress.

Working the Horses Correctly: Gillian Higgins

Monday 16th March at 7pm

One of your main roles as a coach is to educate the rider to correctly train their horses, and this is an important area that coaches should never stop developing. Gillian Higgins, of Horses Inside Out, and someone that Caroline thought incredibly highly of, will present on some key areas that contribute towards correct way of going, helping you to back up your technical coaching with evidenced based research. Guaranteed to be an educational evening for all coaches, and a brilliant opportunity to add value to your lessons.

Getting your Priorities Straight: Andrew Fletcher

Monday 30th March at 7pm

List 1 BD Judge, dressage trainer and coach educator, Andrew Fletcher, will host the dressage evening. Andrew will share some of his extensive knowledge as both a coach and judge, helping you to up your dressage coaching. This webinar will have an emphasis on developing world class basics, discussing which areas to prioritise improving, both from a horse perspective, and to best educate riders, areas that are often overlooked. Andrew will also share some of his favourite exercises for you to add to your tool box.

Creating World Class Basics: Richard Waygood MBE

Monday 13th April at 7pm

To wrap up the series, Team GB Performance Manger, Dickie Waygood, will share his philosophy for jump coaching. This is a brilliant opportunity for coaches to understand the training methods that are used by the best coaches and riders in the world, and be able to implement some of them into your own day-to-day coaching. Dickie will discuss the technical requirements for developing both horse and rider, how to make the best use of your arena and share exercises that you can start using to develop your coaching sessions.
